Flexial Corporation, a supplier to the military and aerospace industry, was selected by Hamilton Sundstrand Space Systems International to supply an accumulator bellows assembly for the military's new F-22 Raptor Fighter Jet program. Flexial was also chosen by Lockheed Martin, the aircraft's developer, and by Lear Romec, producer of the cockpit/avionics cooling system. "Flexial's high-reliability and low maintenance solution for the F/A-22 accumulator helps to ensure the success of a new generation of aircraft characterized by remarkable breakthroughs in maneuverability, stealth, and survivability - qualities that mark a new age in fighter capability" says Rick Larsen, president and Founder of Flexial Corporation. "We are proud to be working on this project with our partner Hamilton Sundstrand" Larsen said. Hamilton Sundstrand Space Systems International, Inc. (HSSSI) is a subsidiary of United Technologies Corporation reporting through Hamilton Sundstrand and headquartered in Windsor Locks, Connecticut. "Hamilton's decades of leadership in space technology and aircraft component development serve as both inspiration and strength to us. We have meshed well on each project we've tackled together." The accumulator will serve as a reservoir for coolant to control cockpit and avionics temperature. Flexial's bellows inside the accumulator will contain the coolant and keep it at a fixed pressure, deliver it when needed, compensate for changes in temperature, and recollect it as required by the circulation system. The F/A-22 Raptor, developed at Aeronautical Systems Center, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, is the replacement for the F-15 Eagle air-superiority fighter and will become operational early this century. It combines stealth design with the supersonic, highly maneuverable, dual-engine, long-range requirements of an air-to-air fighter, and it also will have an inherent air-to-ground capability, if needed. The F/A-22's integrated avionics gives it first-look, first-shot, first-kill capability that will guarantee U.S. air dominance for the next three decades. Production assembly of the F/A-22 is currently under way at Lockheed Martin's modern production facilities in Marietta, Georgia. Flexial Corporation designs and manufactures products used on a wide array of commercial and military aircraft, spacecraft and exo-atmospheric missiles, as well as vehicles and equipment for use on land, sea, deep well, medical and undersea applications.
