Summary of position:
Under the general supervision of the appropriate Materials Manager this position is responsible for the selection and qualification of sources, price negotiations, order placements, and follow-up to completion, vendor performance monitoring, expediting and de-expediting.
This position is responsible for:
- Requisition and vendor selection review.
- Negotiations on proposals, purchase agreements and contracts.
- Selection, development and qualification of sourcing.
- Order placement and follow-up.
- Expediting and de-expediting orders with suppliers.
- Interaction with plant planners, Engineering and Quality Departments, Accounts Payable and other disciplines.
- Shipment tracking/tracing.
- Processing of Quality Assurance inspection reports (VCAR's – Vendor Corrective Action Request).
- Implement contingency plans with Production Planning and Manufacturing when inventory availability commitments are at risk and initiates work-around activity.
- Coordinate and implement the planning and attainment of materials needed for post introduction of product on a sustaining basis.
- Analyze, interpret, and make recommendations for MRP requirements to ensure appropriate inventory requirements are planned and changes are implemented.
- Issue purchase orders in accordance with material resource planning guidelines and documented, released engineering specifications for all production materials required.
Skills and Abilities:
- Must possess MS Excel/ Word knowledge
- Intuitive ERP System Knowledge preferred
- Experience in multi-functional and product development teams preferred.
- Ability to manage high complexity projects within department.
- Ability to manage, recommend and implement at sustaining level supplier agreements for mid to high level risk suppliers
- Must be an organized self-starter with good reasoning skills.
- Must be able to work under general supervision and take direction.
Experience/Education:
- Must have Bachelor's degree in business or related field
- Minimum 3 - 5 years related experience and/or training in purchasing
- OR equivalent combination of education and experience
- Member of formal Purchasing and/or Planning Association a plus
